Vacation That Pays and Pays and Pays

By Todd | October 15, 2009

Hey guys I know it’s been a while since my last post and I apologize but I’ve been extremely busy with a couple other non IM niches where I’ve been working on building case studies for my affiliate marketing methods that I’ll be sharing in the upcoming new release of the Long Tail Treasure.

I’ve just completed the case study work and have now turned my focus back to completing the course so I hope to do an early beta release of the course in the very near future. I appreciate the patience.

I hadn’t actually realized how long it had been since my last post until a member, Rockin Rod, emailed me mentioning how long it had been and what I’d been up to.

I’ve taken a couple screen shots of what I’ve been up too which you can see below. These are the case studies I mentioned.

BTW, these will be the last “money” shots I show on the blog because to be honest … I think it’s kind of lame to show money statements.

Anyway, there are a couple things I want to mention about these pics …

The first one is actually a follow up to the last blog post about the Vacation That Pays. In that post I talked about how a mailing list campaign to one of my newsletters gave a massive boost in sales. The cool part of it was that because of the increased awareness it brought to the website in question, even after the direct effect from the mailing campaign wore off the overall sales for the site was settled down to about 3X (about $600/day) more than before the campaign.

The first image below is the same account and niche website 6 weeks later and as you can see the daily sales has not slowed down much at all and remains somewhere between $400 and $600 / day on average. In another couple weeks I’ll probably do another mail promotion to give it another boost.

Vacation that pays

This next image is for a different account and different niche website. As you can see from the large one day payoff this was also due to a mail campaign to the newsletter associated with that site.

The list for this campaign was just under 6000 people.

Vacation that pays

Anyway, yeah I’ve been busy … but it’s been worth it. Once again I do apologize for being absent for so long, but I think the course material I’ll be able to put together from this will be very valuable and I look forward to sharing it with you all.

The Vacation That Pays

By Todd | September 1, 2009

I just returned from one of the best vacations of my life and guess what I found when I got home? Another great example of why list building is an absolute must for your business.

I was traveling down to LA for the latest Eben Pagan Guru Mastermind Summit and decided to take an extra few weeks personal time. We did the big tour from Vancouver to Napa Valley, San Francisco, Monterrey, LA for the summit and then to Las Vegas (of course).

Anyway, during the first week we still needed to coordinate some work for a mail campaign that was just launching so we managed to squeeze this in from the hotel room a couple hours a night.

If you’re wondering how a vacation that requires a couple hours of work each day for the first week be considered one of the best vacations I’ve ever had?

Check out the pic below for the results of the mail campaign. The clickbank account shown below is a different account than the one from my previous post and is actually a different campaign all together. (sorry it’s not video like the last one … I was traveling and my laptop doesn’t have camtasia on it so I had to take a screen shot)

This particular campaign was doing on average about $200 per day before the email promotion. We had a very good day on August 13th and the week that followed. As you can see we had a $39K week ending August 19th!

Truth is, it was more like a $50K week from this particular promotion because there was a couple minor upsells that are not clickbank and do not appear here but contributed approximately $10K to the overall promo bottom line.

There are a couple key observations I want to point out in particular.

  1. After about 1 week the sales from the promotional email had dropped off to a minor trickle, but the overall sales have not returned to their previous 200 per day level. Why? Because the email promotion increased awareness of my site and as a result I’m getting more traffic than ever before which is why most of the new sales now are from sources not directly from the email promo. The baseline daily sales for this campaign has now moved from $200 / day to about $500 / day because of the mailing list promotion.
  2. Because of the increased awareness for the site and new increased traffic the promotion has a secondary effect that my list with the starring roll in this whole promotion is now also growing faster than it ever had before. It’s kind of a crazy feedback loop … mailing list promo increases traffic and awareness and in turn makes list grow bigger …. It’s a crazy world.

So you might think this was the highlight of my vacation right?

Nope!

The highlight was without question the Customer Getting Summit in LA which was part of Eben Pagan’s Guru Mastermind program I’m registered in.

What I learned at the Customer Getting Summit a couple weeks ago will easily translate into far more money than the email promotion shown earlier in this post … and that is exciting!

My $6,500 Per Day Mailing List

By Todd | August 2, 2009

This video about my $6,500 day from my mailing list is my response to those who don’t think they can afford a mailing list as well as those who “just haven’t got around to starting one”.

I’ve been running a poll asking people about their thoughts on mailing lists and the results are pretty surprising; you can see them in the video below.

Building a mailing list is often overlooked by beginning marketers who “just don’t get around to it”. But if you want to build a real business online you absolutely must start capturing your leads because your survival may depend on it.

If you haven’t started your mailing list then consider for a moment what your plan will be when the next Google slap happens? How will you survive when suddenly your organic listings disappear to the 100th page overnight because Google changed the rules again? Or your PPC cost suddenly triples overnight? What will that do to your business?

The Answer is in your list! Your list isn’t just about making more money, it’s about adding stability to your business. While you’re working to regain your organic rankings you can continue to contact and make money from your prospects using your list. It will carry you and keep you afloat while everyone else is drowning.

Eben Pagan’s Guru Mastermind Bootcamp

By Todd | July 18, 2009

A couple days ago I returned from Eben Pagan’s Guru Mastermind Bootcamp which was held on July 11 & 12 in Los Angeles. The experience was nothing short of spectacular.

The idea of the bootcamp was to provide a whirlwind tour / overview of the Guru Mastermind program over the period of two days. I was thrilled to find that it wasn’t a big pitch fest but rather two solid days of rock solid, usable material that I’ve already begun to implement in my business.

When I say two solid days I mean solid! We started 8:30 am and didn’t finish until 8:30 pm (9:30 pm on the second night). With only a 1 hour break for a late lunch as well as 15 minute breaks every 90 minutes, it was a very long day but well worth every minute.

We covered everything from why it’s important to think like a marketer and not an expert. How to create self contained concepts for your information products along with frameworks for teaching and conveying information that will appeal to the 4 basic learning styles.

We went into depth on wordsmithing, the art of using the right word for the right effect. We covered traffic and advertising as well.

I also learned a very cool technique from one of his guest speakers, Opher Brayer, who taught us how to create a high quality ebook or information product in a very short period of time … like a week! The method he describes would make it easy for anyone to do and, dare I say, actually enjoyable. Not to mention easy to outsource!

Describing the method would be far more than what could be done in a blog post, but I will try and find some resources to his material as I do believe he teaches his method. Here is Opher’s twitter account (thanks sheyne) http://twitter.com/opherbrayer.

I think one of the most valuable parts of the Guru Butcamp was the networking opportunities. I spent 2 12 hours days in a room with 400 like minded people all building their information marketing business. The attendees were at various stages of their business development from complete beginner to those making a million dollars a year. Needless to say the connections I made were invaluable.

My decision to join the Eben Pagan’s Guru Mastermind program is already turning out to be one of the most valuable decisions of my life.

Lastly, although we were restricted from filming or taking pictures we did manage to get a couple that at the end of the even so without further delay …

And of course who goes to LA without going to Venice Beach for the day. The guy in the pic is my buddy who attended the Bootcamp with me. I’m taking the picture.
