Help Me Help You With the New Weekly Poll
By Todd | March 9, 2009
The primary reasons for this blog, and the Long Tail Treasure course, is to help you not only make more money, but to successfully grow a sustainable business that will provide security for your long term future. The new weekly poll that you see on the right sidebar will help me help you do just that.
It only takes a minute to answer the poll and your effort will come back to you in multiples. Helping me understand your marketing business, what your struggles are and where you need the most help ultimately helps me understand how to best help you. (how many more times can a person say “help” in one paragraph)
So here’s the plan. Each week I’ll be collecting the stats and changing up the questions. I’ll use the feedback to help plan out some of my future lessons and blog posts.
Having said that, please don’t assume each poll question is a direct indication of what’s to come. It’s to give me a better picture of what’s needed and the content I ultimately create may address more than one issue or poll question. Another way to put it … there may not be a one-to-one correspondence between the poll questions and what I produce next, but it will certainly guide what I produce for you.
Normally I prefer to simply ask for email regarding what you need, but the Long Tail Treasure membership is in the many thousands and it would take weeks to poor through the email responses. I’d have to change this to a quarterly poll and even then I’d spend all my time reading email rather than producing solutions for you guys. That would suck for all of us!
So please participate in the poll, it will be very much appreciated.
Lastly, please provide suggestions for future polls by adding them to the comment field below. Got a burning curiosity about how others are doing with some technique? is it appropriate for a poll? Add a comment below!
cheers,
Todd

Awesome man! I’m excited to see what you got planned buddy.
Normal Joe’s last blog post..Google Friend Connect. Are we friends? We homies? Well join the site then…
Hey thanks joe.
I got goodies planned
Good job alan. Definetly part of my plan to better serve c ustomers
Thanks Russ. I think asking for feedback is always prudent. Besides, I’m often surprised by what I learn and it’s these surprises that are a constant reminder that you can’t predict what people think or do. You have to ask and then test.

Hey Todd, are you coming out with courses about email marketing? I’m looking forward for one from you !!!!
=)))))
P/S: I’ve been following your long tail treasure courses and what you’ve done are magnificent. I really look forward for more of your related courses!
I’m glad to hear you like the course material so far.
The long tail course currently has a lesson that focuses on how I use email marketing, but I think there is a real need to go much deeper into it. Especially given the current economic climate because there is no better way to increase your profit while reducing your costs than with email marketing.
The two most common problems people tell me about are that they either don;t have enough money to drive traffic with PPC or they don’t have enough time to build organic traffic with free methods.
Email lists are designed to solve both of these problems. They solve the problem by reducing both the time and cost of reaching your leads because with a list you capture your leads and can communicate with them over and over again. You can build relationships.
Essentially you don’t have to always be driving traffic to your site to still have a viable business.
I think if people really understood the power and simplicity of a list they’re all have one.
Anyway, I’m going to wait and see what the poll shows and go from their.
thanks for the feedback.

I would love a lesson on “How to Build a Squeeze Page”.
Hi Jodie,
Thanks for the suggestion. I think a lot of people could use a lesson on squeeze pages and it’s something I’ll certainly create a lesson on.
I’ll probably add it as a poll question as well so I can learn more about specific problems as well.
thanks,
todd
I don’t have a suggestion for a poll but the following concern instead.
I have written articles, posted to my blog, hand out biz cards, talk to people and yet my book is not selling. Google ads brought me sales at a loss of 3.2:1.
I have no idea what I am doing wrong or what to do right. That’s what I need help with. Will a poll address that?
I have no money left, savings are used up and I am collecting unemployment. So it is down to a slow death situation for me right now because I don’t know how to create the needed sales to stay afloat.
To do email marketing I have to have a reason for people to sign up first, time to cultivate that and money, money I don’t have.
So what is left? What can I do to create enough sales, 8 to 10 a day, to stay afloat?
Suggestions welcome. Anything involving spending money is put immediately to the bottom of the list, there just is no money.
Hi Richard,
From what you’ve given me I’m not sure how I can present this as a poll, but that doesn’t mean I can’t help.
if you email me at the email you receive the Long Tail Treasure emails from I can probably help you more. Please provide me with a url for your book.
you’ve created a book so you obviously see the value in product creation. The problem must be in one of the following areas
1) There is no demand for the book or the niche
2) you’re not getting enough targeted traffic
3) Your sales page isn’t converting
I imagine you investigated the niche to see if there was demand before creating the book.
Given that you’ve gone broke sending traffic to your page with AdWords my first guess would be that the sales page and offer simply isn’t converting.
This could be for any of a number of reasons.
Anyway, if you send me url for the website as well as some stats like traffic, conversions etc … then I can help you.
cheers,
todd
Hi there, i have a newbie question. How on earth do i start building a list in the first place? I have several blogs/lenses etc and both have subscribers however i do not have email addresses for these subscribers so how i can contact them by email??
Hi Graham,
This is outlined in the lesson on email in the Long Tail Treasure course. Basically you shouldn’t try and contact anyone via email who has not specifically given you permission to do so using a double opt-in process. Using an email responder is the only safe way to go. If you try to do it other ways you seriously risk your domain name being flagged as a spam domain and forever after your emails will not get through to people. Sign up for an email responder as described in the email lesson in my course and then create an opt-in form for people to sign up for your email newsletter.
You can sign up for the free Long Tail Treasure course using the big orange SIGN UP button on the top right corner of this blog or click here . It will get you started. Don’t worry about going through the whole course right away … just skip ahead to the email lesson to get started.
I also belong to WA but I somehow found your Longtail Treasure and I am loving it. Being new to this whole IM thing I was bit overwelmed with all the info. I love the way you organized everything into a simple to follow format. Great work. I will try to give you gold once I find you in WA.
It would be great to a link to the next page at the bottom of the lessons
Thanks

Hi Theresa,
Thanks for stopping by and especially for the kind words about the course. One of my primary concerns when developing the course was to make it accessible and offer a escape for those feeling overwhelmed because IM can certainly be overwhelming for beginners.
Thanks also for the link suggestion. I’m actually going to do one better than that! I’m in the process of reorganizing the course material with full cross references as well as much improved navigation. There are actually a lot more changes as well but those are going to be a surprise

One of the PPC programs I am working with has a Forum where the guys are smart and willing to share “good” info on how to get it right quickly and this is a good thang!
One of the guys alerted me to a YT Vid on How the Goog Auction Works. It cleared up a few issues I was having on building my PPC campaigns.
I suspect many/most of the readers on this nice blog site might also find this vid useful, so here’s the link - hope it helps someone make some $$

jnferree’s last blog post..Google Cash Detective 2 – What is it?
Hey Neil,
Thanks a bunch for sharing this great video. I think it’s one of the clearest explanations I’ve seen on the google auction.
As you said, I’m sure this video will be appreciated by everyone who has even a remote interest in understanding adwords.
In fact this video is important enough that I want to ensure my readers see it so i think I’ll through out a blog post on it in a couple days to ensure everyone sees it.
Thanks again Neil!

Hey Todd, I just want to congratulate you on all the success, and your great tutorial. I too am a member of Wealthyaffiliate, not sure if you still are or not.
Your site is a great resource and I’m glad I stumbled across it in the forums, it is a very complete, easy to understand, not to lengthy guide to success. This is a great formula/system.
It really builds on what I already know and ties in everything that I’m learning with WA. In my opinion, they don’t really do the greatest job tying stuff together, mind you I’m only on week 5 of the course.
I only hope I can duplicate your success and hope to be able to help others.
Cheers, Chris
Hey Chris thanks for stopping by. And thanks for the comments on the course
I am still a member of the Wealthy Affiliates. It’s a great source of information and a great place to network with other marketers.
WA has so much information that it’s often a little overwhelming which is one of the reasons I created my free course.
I’m sure if you stick with the IM thing long enough you’ll be successful. Problem is most people are sold on how easy internet marketing is but they misinterpret that as meaning low amount of work.
I make far more money than any doctor I’ve ever met and I didn’t have to spend 7 years in college so yeah it’s easy in that respect … but I still had to learn and do the work. And to do that you need self motivation and discipline.
If you can do that then you’re golden and you’ll be successful.
Don’t be a stranger

Hey Todd, I followed your course with two products from CB. I dominated Google with both. The problem was- not much interest in either (judging by squidoo stats) and no sales. While I am thrilled your course showed me how to rank, I am deeply disappointed in my ability to find a product that will sell. It’s like I am wondering if it is even worth the time and effort. I do have the Micro Niche Finder now and I can see the potential of the long tail treasure. I find myself second-guessing what I see with my own eyes and doubling back on every decision I make. I’m dying over here. One sale would light me up like a kid on Christmas. I fear I may have to hang it up if I don’t hit pay-dirt soon.
Cheers,
Brett
Hi Brett,
Thanks for the comment and explaining the problems you’re having. I can assure you it’s not an uncommon problem. A successful campaign does require not only traffic but also conversions from visitors in to sales.
Of course conversions depend on two key factors
1) the product you’re marketing
2) the landing page effectiveness
I have certainly picked a few duds in my time when it comes to product selection as I think everyone has or will. I’ve also picked great products and had driven huge amounts of traffic with minimal results because the landing page failed to convince them to take action.
One of the things I’ve begun doing in the past 6 months is to go after even more popular products. This certainly means there’s more competition but it also ensures there are buyers and money being spent there.
More competition means more money in the market and I feel that by following the traffic techniques in my course, as you have, I can compete traffic wise with more competitive markets.
I will certainly address both these issues in some new lessons shortly.
Anyway, if you’d like to send me an email with some more details of your campaigns I’ll have a quick look and offer some assistance if I can.
cheers,
todd
I’m new at all this online marketing! I’ve been doing this about six
months now and after about 5 programs that I’ve got know with
I found one that seems to be ok, I got 12 prospects my very first
day but I seem to be having a problem closing the deal,
I would love to learn about how often most people use giveaways as a way to build their list… especially as a newer affiliate marketer. Also have those additions to the list been useful or not.
Love the polls.
John Henderson’s last blog post..A Few Ideas On Internet Marketing
Hi Todd,
I have paid for courses about online marketing that didn’t even come close to what you have here. This was by far one of the most valuable courses i have found online over the past year. Kudos to Longtail Treasures
I just wish i had this infomation a year ago when I first started out. Oh well, “Better late than never…”
BTW I would love to learn more about SEO and OMS
Thanks Todd,
Hey,
I have some feedback regarding clarity. When I got the e-mail and clicked through the the post, I was expecting the poll to be in or below the post. Are we being asked to participate in the poll on the right side of the screen regarding e-mail lists? I assume this is the case, but I’m not sure. It would help me (and probably others as well) if you used language like “please participate in the poll to the right of this post; this week’s topic is ____.”
thanks!
Hey thanks for the feedback. And you are absolutely right with your suggestion. It is in fact the poll on the side bar that I’m referring to but as you point out it’s not that clear.
I’m in the process of redesigning the blog and will be moving the poll to the individual posts rather than the sidebar so it’s more clear.
cheers,
Todd
