With paid listing you can get you squidoo lens listed even though it's a deep link, but I find that these directories are rather expensive to get into and the cost usually isn't worth it.

The regular submission for top level domains via the directory maximizer I mention in my course is on 14 cents a listing and, in mine worth the cost. But for the deep linking it's not in my opinion worth the extra money.

The position of the lens fluctuates.

To the directory submission, do you do paid listing for your squidoo lens to be included in the directory?

What directories do you submit to?

I do live in Canada. Although I just checked it on google.com and the squidoo lens was listed as #1 there too. I wouldn;t be surprised to see it more around from day to day between the top few spots. This is typical. Anyway, are you sure you weren't including the sponsored links when you checked the position?

Some directories will allow you to submit it and some won't. The issue is that the squidoo page is not a top lever listing but a subfolder on the domain. To link to a subfolder of a domain you need to have a directory that allows "deep linking". Many do allow this but often charge extra for it.

I'm considering adding the subscribe to comments option, but am also considering some major upgrades to the site as a whole so it may take a few weeks to see this.

cheers,

PPC has the significant advantage of speed. You can get people to your landing page fast which in turn let's you tweak the landing page quickly via split testing until it's converting into sales.

The disadvantage is the startup cost. And I wouldn't even consider doing PPC without first taking a decent course on PPC because you'll burn through a lot of money learning it.

Having said that, I'm now doing a fair amount of PPC as well as Bum Marketing. I started with Bum Marketing because it was cheap. Now that I can afford PPC I split my efforts about 50/50 between the two. I think a good combination of the two is smart diversification. But I'd only start with one until you learn it before moving on to the other.

just my 2 cents ;)

It seems you live in canada, so you are using google.ca. But on google.com, you are the fourth. but it is still good.

I want to ask, does directories allow you to submit your squidoo lens?

(You don't have subscribe to a comment plugin, I hope to remember to visit to see your response)

Hi Jason,

I have found some success with twitter marketing. However I've noticed a couple things. It generally takes either a very large number of followers OR a lot of time in order to notice the payoff.

With a large number of followers you can send out a tweet and within minutes have a 100 of hits to a web page. But the hits are quite often bounces. If the page has a really compelling offer and your followers are fairly targeted you can certainly generate opt-ins.

With a smaller list, if you become quite active with tweets then you'll get a much higher number of people paying attention if your tweets are worth their attention. but of course this take a lot more time.

Of course if you have both then you're golden.

The thing about twitter is that you're interrupting people with your message rather than having them looking for for something specific to begin with. This means they're not really in the right mind space to begin with and they're more likely to bounce. The traffic isn't very high quality.

It is however a pretty good tool to help keep people informed by integrating your other services to twitter ... like your blog, email newsletters etc ...

One thing to keep in mind is to use budurl (or similar) for your urls when sending a tweet instead of relying on tinyurl to shrink the url. This way you can see the stats of how many people click your tweet link. This way you can measure the success of your tweets.

cheers,

Actually I get a fair amount of traffic from it every day. Not hundreds or anything like that, but enough to make it worth while. What I do get is a lot of new opt-ins almost every day since the conversion rate for the opt-ins is fairy high.
