My $6,500 Per Day Mailing List

By Todd | August 2, 2009

This video about my $6,500 day from my mailing list is my response to those who don’t think they can afford a mailing list as well as those who “just haven’t got around to starting one”.

I’ve been running a poll asking people about their thoughts on mailing lists and the results are pretty surprising; you can see them in the video below.

Building a mailing list is often overlooked by beginning marketers who “just don’t get around to it”. But if you want to build a real business online you absolutely must start capturing your leads because your survival may depend on it.

If you haven’t started your mailing list then consider for a moment what your plan will be when the next Google slap happens? How will you survive when suddenly your organic listings disappear to the 100th page overnight because Google changed the rules again? Or your PPC cost suddenly triples overnight? What will that do to your business?

The Answer is in your list! Your list isn’t just about making more money, it’s about adding stability to your business. While you’re working to regain your organic rankings you can continue to contact and make money from your prospects using your list. It will carry you and keep you afloat while everyone else is drowning.

Hi Todd!

i’ve been following you ever since early 2008!

i am so wowed that you’ve gone that far.

From a blogspot blog to now an owned domain.

Anyways i wanna ask you if, Inside the List is essential and enough to start building a list.

Do we need to know more other than ITL?

Thank you so much Todd!

Hi eusof,

Thanks for the comments.

If you’ve been following me that long then you’ve certainly seen some big changes. It’s been a pretty wild ride for sure, and a lot of work too, but it’s been well worth the effort ;)

I remember the blogspot days … wow I’m sure glad I switched to wordpress as it’s made a huge difference.

“Inside the List” is certainly enough to start building your list, but it pretty basic compared to what they’re doing over at listbuilding.com.

I definitely recommend getting the free ListBuilding.com DVD if there are any left as it will show you list building techniques that will put you way ahead of the crowd.

Some of their techniques, along with techniques I’ve learned from Eben Pagan and Frank Kern, will be demonstrated in the new version of my Long Tail treasure course I’ll be launching soon … it’s gonna know your socks off ;)

cheers,
Todd

Thanks Roberto,

I think your vision of what you want to do is sound and now all you need to do is execute on it.

I’ve just updated the post to include a link to ListBuilding.com. It’s the best free source on list building available at the moment. When they run out of copies I’ll find another source for you as well. But try and get your hands on one of their free copies if you can.

cheers,
Todd

Simply amazing Todd,

I have never seen such an incredible proof of the power of List !

Now I’ll have to think seriously about building a list. Thanks a lot for awakening me :)

Hey thanks Tim!

Yes you really should look seriously at it because it will change everything for your marketing business.

I’m actually working on a JV deal with another marketer right now that, if it goes through, will make that video above look like pocket change. My fingers are crossed :)

New marketers are so over exposed to IM niche marketing that they often assume that the only place to make money is the IM niche, but that’s not the case at all. So the coolest thing about that video above is that it’s not in the IM niche.

Hey Flexiblecarter,

Well there are many things you can do to grow your list and make more sales. The most important thing you can do is offer your visitor a reason to sign up for your list. Makes sure you’re giving them a good reason … ie. a good guide or piece of information.

Then make sure it’s clear what the benefit is for the visitor if they sign up.

Of course there is a great deal of ways to do this. Too much for a comment …

cheers,
Todd

I just finished your e-course. I have been looking for something like that, especially the free part, for about a month, when I first heard about affiliate marketing. The course was great I am implementing everything you discussed. I am working on a small bonus e-book to build a list. I have a few questions and I don’t know if this is the place to ask them but here goes.

1. If I build my list based on one product does it do me any good for completely unrelated products?

2. My product name is not searched at all, my shed plans on clickbank, should everything still work the way you did it given that I am meeting the “customer” at a different stage in the buying cycle?

That’s what I have so far, I have about 10 articles in review at ezinearticles.com as well. Once again, I really enjoyed the course, Thanks!

Now that I am actually setting up my wordpress blog I thought of a helpful addition to the course. What widgets should I use. I see what you have on your site here but the way worpress lays out their widgets its kind of convoluted. A list of “widgets you love” would be very helpful. Thanks

Hi Kris,

I’m working on a list of plugins that I use and will post them shortly. Which wordpress plugins to use an how to use them for best results is something I go into in great detail in the new version of the course which I’ll be announcing soon.

I think you’ll like it.

Last questions I promise, which widgets are you using for your “stay in touch” and “poll” sections? Did you create your own theme or is something like it available @ Wordpress, I couldn’t find it. Thanks for all your help.

Hi Kris,

The theme on this blog was taken from somewhere that I don;t recall but was then heavily modified so it’s not much like the original.

The “stay in touch” section is actually just the standard text widget where I added my own html code.

The poll widget I use is called wp-polls.

Hi Kris,

Welcome aboard and thanks for the comments. I’m glad you’re liking the course so far. I’m actually working on a new release that is really going to rock!

To answer your questions …

If you build a bonus based on a specific product then the list you build will only be useful for marketing other products in that niche. This is the case for any list you build around a specific niche. And all lists need to be built around a niche.

Just keep in mind that your specific product already fits a specific niche which is the niche all your related product promotions must fit.

If your product name is not being searched then the specific method on list building I mention in the course will not really help you because the method relies on being able to leverage the work of other marketers who introduce your prospects to the product.

If the product name is not being searched then there is no leverage.

The next version of the course will be much better and much more details when it comes to the what and the why of these techniques.

cheers,
Todd

Hi Tod

Your list is one of the few I havent unsubscribed from! I always look forward to your messages.
On your $6500 payout, what kind of conversion and price point did you have? And would you be doing this mailout say once a month?

Thanks!

Kirk

Hey thanks for the comments Kirk and thanks for following for so long.

The product being marketed had a conversion rate of about 7-8%, depending on the particular email the user got (it was being split tested)

For each of my niches/lists I generally do a new promotion about every 3 weeks. But every promotion doesn’t come out this way. Some are maybe only a few thousand dollars, but others can be much larger.

I have a number of niches and campaigns going and a few of them are much stronger than the others. But with multiple campaigns going in different niches it makes it easy to be doing a decent promotion in at least one of then each week.

This $6,500 promotion has actually become dwarfed by a more recent promotion I did via email which I’ll be posting a
shortly.

cheers,
Todd

Hi Todd

Thanks for your video; always look forward to your stuff!

What kind of conversion were you getting from your list and what was your price point?
How many times would you recommend doing a mailing like that?

Thanks

Kirk

Thanks!

Being against list building is like being against customers. Isn’t that what your list is after all?

anyone who is not working on building their list is not really serious about building a real business.

A lot of people pay lip service to building a business online, but only a handful take it seriously enough to actually do it.

getting started on your list is a sure sign of how serious a person is about their business and is an almost infallible indicator of who is going to be successful or not.

I hope this post really makes people understand this.
